Lightel Inspection Scopes Support PC and APC, 16- & 32-Fiber MTP®/MPO Connectors

RENTON, Wash., September 14, 2017 — Lightel® Inspection Scopes Support PC and APC, 16- & 32-Fiber MTP®/MPO Connectors

In order to support the migration to 400G, there has been increased interest in 16- and 32-fiber MTP/MPO connectors. As per TIA and IEC specifications, the guide pin pitch has increased from 4.6mm for the 12-24 fiber MPO to 5.3mm for the 16-32 fiber MPO while maintaining the overall ferrule size. The two types of MPO connectors are not intermateable.

The Lightel line of inspection scopes has supported 12-72 fiber PC and APC MPO connectors for years. Lightel has recently developed a new front-end for the standard MTP/MPO tip to support this new 16-32 fiber connector for both PC and APC configurations. Thus, by simply changing out the front end of existing tips, the user can support 16-fiber and 32- fiber MPO connectors. The tip itself does not need replacement. This allows the user to easily switch from 12-fiber to 16-fiber based MPO connector inspection or effortlessly migrate to 16-fiber MPOs without the extensive costs of new tips and scopes.
