RoHS and Wee Position Statement

The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (“EU”) put into effect on January 27, 2003 the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and the WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC. The purpose of the RoHS Directive is to protect human health and the environment from the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment through the laws of the Member States of the European Union approximated in this directive. The purpose of the WEEE Directive is to promote waste recovery with a view to reducing the quantity of waste for disposal and saving natural resources, in particular by reuse, recycling, composting and recovering energy from waste electrical and electronic equipment.

In general, the RoHS Directive prohibits certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and encourages their substitution with more environmentally friendly alternatives. A particular statement in the RoHS Directive regarding the certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment states that Member States shall ensure that, from 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

It is Lightel Technologies’s policy and practice to avoid the use of the RoHS Directive’s hazardous substances in the design and manufacturing of its products that fall within the scope of the RoHS Directive. Lightel Technologies is committed to ensuring that its products are free of the RoHS Directive’s hazardous substances. Other Lightel Technologies products fall outside the scope of the RoHS Directive based on an exclusion in the RoHS Directive for electrical and electronic equipment that are in category 9. Category 9 applies to Lightel Technologies’s monitoring and control instruments.

Lightel Technologies is committed to the WEEE Directive by implementing a return and recycling program to dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Lightel Technologies recognizes the impact of the RoHS and WEEE Directives. Lightel Technologies is participating in the compliance process and working with suppliers and customers to contribute to attaining the objectives of the RoHS and WEEE Directives.
